Two-Day STAAR® Institute (South of Dallas)

Time Zone:

Training Location:

Elementary Texas educators (Grades 3-5), including Special Populations, such as Emergent Bilingual (EB), Special Education, and Gifted and Talented (GT), will enjoy this professional development workshop devoted to preparing their students to successfully meet and master the thinking and writing challenges of the STAAR®!

Join us for this two-day event and learn how to apply the Jane Schaffer Academic Writing Program® to your writing practice and STAAR® preparation. On the morning of Day One, educators will learn the JSWP® methodology, its terminology, color-coding, and essential elements. That afternoon, they will apply and practice their new learning as they prepare to return to their classrooms and immediately guide students in writing nonliterary short constructed responses. On Day Two, the step-by-step process will continue, focusing on nonliterary extended constructed responses.

Each step in the JSWP® training process is aligned with grade level Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, Assessed Curriculum, and Blueprints. In addition to writing strategies, teachers will learn how JSWP® close reading techniques apply to all sections of the exam. The training also reviews TEA’s recently released Scoring Guidelines and provides strategies for revising and editing.
