Teaching the Persuasive Essay

This workshop is one day, 5 hours (not including lunch). Teachers learn how to teach ways of organizing persuasive papers, developing a thesis that takes a stand, acknowledging the counter-arguments, and concluding with a call to action.

The day includes the following:

  • Tenninology
  • Models
  • Large-group and small-group practice in thesis construction and body paragraph development
  • Two approaches to addressing the counterargument
  • Introduction and conclusion
