Expository and Informational Writing for STEAM

Our STEAM guide provides science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics teachers with an overview of the Jane Schaffer Writing Program®, its terminology and philosophy, and applying the methodology to writing responses, such as discussion questions, body paragraph models, and essay writing, as well as research-based writing. Additionally, writing prompts and/or sample paragraphs are included for STEAM content.

This guide includes models and activities that correspond to the following Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and  Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Science, and Mathematics, and Technical Subjects.

While CCSS explicitly identifies the literacy component in math and science, the TEKS implicitly indicates writing skills with terms such as analyze, compare, describe, identify, investigate, record, relate, and to name a few.

With regard to Technology, our Google Docs Templates substitutes and augments (SAMR) our analog student masters with the feature of remote collaboration while our JSWPOnLine.com software program redefines (SAMR) the traditional graphic organizers in a way that would not be possible without the technology, creating a novel experience and opportunity for computer science students to suggest added features!
