Brad Dominy has taught English in Dallas for 23 years. In college he earned his B.A. in English and Journalism with a minor in writing from Stephen F. Austin State University. He also holds his Master’s in Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas. He currently teaches AP Language and Composition and UT On-Ramps Rhetoric. In addition, Brad is a long-time AP Reader/Table Leader, scoring AP Language and Composition exams for the College Board.

Favorite Lesson
Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" with choral responses. Students sit on desks - symposium style. We read the allegory, and students create dramatic demonstrations of those captives in the cave and those captives moving out of the cave and into the light. This activity shifts into a symposium on enlightenment, the students' journeys toward enlightenment, the building of civilization, and the students' role in it. I look forward to this lesson every year. It sets the tone for the year and helps students see the respect I have for them and their minds. It's cool.
My JSWP "Aha" Moment
I sent my students off to take AP® exams. After a few stressful hours, the kids came back exhausted but relieved to be done. One young lady came in with her hands in the air. "Mr. Dominy, I want you to know that I was seeing green in my head!" She did well on that exam. I knew then that the time I spent with JSWP® was so worth it.
