Trainees will learn how to train their teachers to teach the argumentation mode of discourse, using the official Jane Schaffer® terminology, color-coding, chunking techniques, ratios and graphic organizers in a step-by-step process. Dr. Louis teaches trainees 1) how to implement the training to adult learners, 2) what to anticipate with regard to questions; 3) when and how to pace the training segments; and 4) how to assess teacher performance and student responses. Trainees receive Dr. Louis’ PowerPoint® presentation, a trainer’s manual and pacing plan, as well as the trainer’s pen set and promotional products.

Trainees will train their English language arts and reading teachers, science teachers, and social studies teachers how to implement JSWP in order to teach students to write strong arguments.  Trainers will learn how to teach four differentiated argumentation layouts of instruction for On-Level, SPED, ELL, G/T, Honors, and AP®/IB students with a special section on the ACT®. Trainees will also learn how to convey the importance of  1) concession, counterargument, refutation; 2) audience, purpose, and occasion; and 3) Aristotle's ethos, logos, and pathos, and how to train teachers to use these tools of argumentative writing to teach to their students. In this Train-the-Trainer session, you will gain an insight on how to help teachers add a unique voice and style to their teaching to help students write noble arguments.
